Qualicoat Australia
As the only independent licensing and audit system in Australia, Qualicoat verifies the entire powder coating process, from the powder used to the application of that powder.

As such, it is considered the most important advance in quality control ever made by Australia's $150 million-a-year aluminium finishing industry.

There are hundreds of powder coating businesses in Australia. Prior to the introduction of Qualicoat, there were no qualifications or requirements to become a powder coater, so there was no way of ensuring a quality finish.

In essence, Qualicoat outlines and approves the minimum criteria for the critical elements of powder application, including:

• pre-treatment
• plant
• powder
• process control
• testing

The powders and pre-treatment systems are also tested and approved, so a Qualicoat licence supports the warranty provided by Dulux or Interpon, for example.

The Australasian Institute of Surface Finishing (AISF) administers Qualicoat in Australia. The AISF provides support and guidance to applicators wanting to obtain Qualicoat approval, so any compliant applicator can achieve certification.

Inspections are undertaken by Azuma Design, which is a National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) approved laboratory and an Iso 9001-2000 quality endorsed company. Inspections are random, and are carried out twice a year.

Qualicoat International
Qualicoat has been operating for over 20 years and is considered an international benchmark of quality, relevant to local and imported powder coatings.

The Qualicoat label was first introduced in Europe in 1986 and has since spread to 39 countries, including Italy, Germany, France, Great Britain, Chile, Egypt, Singapore and Saudi Arabia.

A governing body in Zurich controls Qualicoat internationally, with exclusive authority to approve the standard throughout the world. Qualicoat licences are negotiated through individual industry bodies.

Qualicoat’s mission is to provide best practice rules that result in consistent high quality coating on aluminium. To achieve this, Qualicoat is committed to:
 

• establishing specifications for processes, products and tests
• developing and improving these specifications
• granting licenses to coating plants that apply for Qualicoat approval
• testing and approving chemicals and coating products
• monitoring the correct application of the specifications in licensed plants
